BACKGROUND
The School was established in June 2005 in the city of Balikpapan in East Kalimantan. The school is an extension of the Raffles Education Center and commenced to bridge the gap between fair and affordable quality education and the exorbitant pricing of the other options offered within this oil, gas and natural resource rich city of Balikpapan. The Facility is exception for the region and once opened the growth and interest from parents has astounded the Foundation Directors.

Facilities include:

• 1300m2 Facility fully fenced and 24 hour Security
• 700m2 Building with 5 toilets and 2 levels containing 8 x 4 mtr class rooms with peg board walls and all the modern requirements
• 12 Pentium III computers, Stereos, TV's, Video machines, Sound Equipment, Sports Equipment and Library
• 100m2 of undercover hardstand play area
• 110m2 Canteen and Lunchroom facility
• 120m2 Play area with Sun shading
• The Facility houses English Studies for Ladies and Children during the day as well as a Dance Studio on Saturdays

INSTRUCTIONAL LANGUAGE
All core subjects are taught in English with ‘English-as-a-Second Language’ (ESL) support available to the required sectors.

STAFF
Raffles has 4 expatriate teachers and 2 local Teachers. All staff must be qualified Teachers and hold a number of years experience in their field. Art is taught by an Artist and Art Instructor Swimming via a Qualified Swimming Instructors Dancing via a Qualified Dance Instructor

STUDENT NATIONALITIES
Raffles is a truly International school. With a current student enrolment of 26 the school represents 12 different nationalities and 9 languages. All children will be reviewed and skills evaluated prior to commencement in order to allow our Staff to prepare a plan for your child's development and of course Primary children from a non- English speaking background must have ‘English-as-a-Second Language’ ESL lessons as part of their ongoing Academic studies as to not disadvantage them in any way.
